I am a teacher with over 25 years of teaching elementary school and gifted and talented students. My experience is with students k-5 with majority of my experience (25 years) working with high level students. Curriculum should include projects that incorporate skills that need to be learned, and also are fun and creative. Some of the things I have done are:Mock trials, Public Speaking, Stock Market Game, creating magazines, book discussions,STEAM and STEM activities, working with computers, Chess lessons, Debate, creative writing, and other fun activities. In my teaching experience with the high level learner, I have created activities that challenge my students to be creative, and stretch to their own personal highest level. I am all about students getting out of their comfort zone in a safe place and trying something new, knowing that they can fail - while learning, and working on things that they might not know much about initially and learning that academics are fun. Literacy is important and I encourage reading, discussion, and finding ways to incorporate the mastery of any learning into a meaningful project.
I do teach straight lessons, but my specialty, is making lessons meaningful while pushing students out of their comfort zone and into new interests they never knew they had before!
