Yalira began studying the violin in 1992 at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory, with María de los Ángeles Verdecia. In 1999, she entered the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory taking classes with the well-known violinist and professor Evelio Tieles. In 2006, Yalira graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte, with Augusto Diago, from Havana after studying music and specializing in the violin.
Yalira has taken masters classes with Irene Mitri (USA), Priya Mitchell (UK), Eric Grossman (USA), Heriberto Fonseca (CUBA) and Christopher Collins (USA), Alexander Markov and Gary Levinson.
Now living in Houston, TX she has been a very active teacher along with her past experience from Havana. She worked at Paulita Concepción Vocational School of Music and Dance (Havana), Scala Academy of Music (Merida, MX), the Children Initiation Music Center (CIMI, Merida, MX) the “Jose Jacinto Cuevas” Music Center (CEMUS, Merida) and Esperanza Azteca Monterrey Symphonic Orchestra (OSEA Monterrey, Mx).
Yalira has been a member of the Amadeo Roldan Youth Symphonic Orchestra and the Instituto Superior de Arte Symphonic Orchestra. She was the lead violinist in the Children Symphonic Orchestra of Havana and the Great Theater of Havana Symphonic Orchestra. She has also played with the Matanzas's Symphonic Orchestra, the Manuel Saumell Camera Orchestra, the Romeu's Camera Orchestra and the Youth Charanga of the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. Yalira has participated in many festivals including the Havana's International Ballet Festival, the Country Music Festival, the Havana's Contemporary Music Festival, th Havana's Antique Music Festival, and the Miguel Bernal Morelia's Music Festival in Mexico.
She won second place and the best interpretation of a work by a Cuban composer in 1996, and first place in 2002 in the Amadeo Roldan State competition. She also won First place in 1994 in the Amadeo Rodan National Competition. In 2007 she moved to Mexico and was a member of Yucatan Symphonic Orchestra (OSY) and University of Nuevo Leon Symphonic Orchestra (OSUANL).
She has recorded CD's for The Cuban National Ballet including "Los millones de Arlequín", "Las sílfides", "Grand Pas de Quatre", "Shakespeare y sus máscaras or Romeo y Julieta", in this she was the orchestral Leader. With the Camerata Romeu she recorded the CD's "Tampa-Habana-Oslo", "Non Divisi" (with works by Roberto Valera),"Raigal" (Cuban serenades) and "Saudaçoes", produced by the well-known guitarist and composer Egberto Gismonti.
