Greetings! For the past two decades I have been fortunate in being able to work with students of varied ages, learning styles, and cultural backgrounds. I have served as K-12 reading, literacy, and resource specialist as well as teaching language arts, ELS, education, and fostering student success as a college professor.
My teaching and personal values include:
● Developing positive relationships that celebrate each student’s unique life experiences
● Teaching independent thinking and critical analysis to unlock areas of discovery and creativity
● Making learning active and fun by using meaningful, interesting, and relevant content
● Offering encouragement and counsel to each student, and providing them with useful tools and resources for success
I specialize in teaching English Language Arts, including reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and the writing process. I also have extensive experience in assisting learners with building tools for personal success including developing study skills, academic planning, and stress management. I strive to create an individualized approach for each student as they progress on their unique academic path.
In addition, guiding students in college planning is an area near and dear to me. I served as a member of the admission team for the University of California for three years and understand the unique qualities colleges and universities seek in forming an incoming class. I also worked closely with community college students on the college transfer process. I have expertise in personal essay development, navigating the details of the application process, and helping students discover and define their own unique goals and aspirations.
