Hi everyone! My name is Sue, and I have been a Special Education teacher for 13 years. Prior to that I homeschooled my children until they went to college, so I have a wide range of experience teaching not only in both public and one year in private schools, but also in the homeschool setting as well!
I earned my Bachelors degree from Millsaps College in 1986 with a major in Psychology. My Masters is in Special Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and I earned it in 2013. My experience in school settings is mostly in the elementary and middle school grades. I have taught two years at the high school level, however, and I am quite comfortable learning along with my students in order to help them understand what they may need help with.
I am married to my second husband, Mike, who is incredibly intelligent, intellectual, and talented. He is teaching me to draw and paint, but he has given up on teaching me Latin I am afraid! Our discussions range from the silly to the philosophical, often within a few seconds. Word play is our favorite hobby - other than our dog Biscuit, that is!
Biscuit is a 5 year old shelter rescued Staffordshire Terrier mix who is about as neurotic and scared as any dog can get. She is only 40 pounds, but her bark makes her sound twice that at least! And unfortunately, she barks a lot....the wind makes the door click *woof woof*....the neighbor closes her car door...*woof woof*....Mommy looks at her....*woof woof*....you get the idea! She's a sweetie, though!
My two children are grown now, each having earned scholarships to their respective colleges when they chose to go. My daughter is an IT girl for a school district (the only female working in the technology department!), married to her car salesman husband. They are the proud parents of Willow, a blue pit bull, and Lyra....some kind of bird, I forget. She's LOUD, that's all I know! My son is attending school now to get his degree and certifications to begin his career in cybersecurity. He is the proud parent of....well, nothing and nobody!
My grandchildren come to me by way of my stepchildren. I have a 6 year old granddaughter, and two grandsons, ages 3 and almost 1. I love them almost as if I had given birth to them myself.
My dream job is to be hired to teach a family's children in a homeschool setting. I not only have the experience of homeschooling, but also in the schools, as well as the education and knowledge that can only come from experience. I believe strongly in homeschooling. I also know what I would have done differently if I could go back and do it again with my own children. That is the kind of experience and thoughtfulness that I would love to bring into your homeschool.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sue
