I am a private educator, experienced in homeschooling gifted students and tutoring students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia and ADHD. As a tutor, I seek to develop an open and trusting relationship with my students to create a friendly environment where learning can take place. I believe every student can grow and improve. My teaching method involves finding my students' learning styles, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. For phonics and reading instruction, I utilize both Lindamood-Bell and Orton Gillingham techniques. As a writing tutor, I focus on establishing pre-writing and organizational skills to help make the writing process easier. My students make an interactive notebook of writing activities that also serves as a reference book for future writing assignments. For math, I help students build and strengthen foundational skills, such as place value, base ten number system, and math facts, in order to be able to grow in mathematical understanding.
I am an educator who believes in inspiring students to unlock their potential and discover a love
of learning. As a homeschooling parent, I researched a wide range of curricula designed for
various learning styles in order to meet my own children's needs. Through this process, my
children were able to hone their individual abilities and work through their weaknesses; both
continued their studies in higher education on their own, my son graduating from the University
of Pennsylvania.
As a specialized tutor, I find fulfillment when my students realize that they can learn and
succeed in school. When those with dyslexia discover the joy of reading or a student with ADHD
is so deeply focused on an exercise, they forget where they are, I beam with pride at their
personal growth. My favorite student quote is, “I’ve never been excited to read a book until now."
