I find that many of my students have been studying English for years. So instead of setting out to teach grammar and vocab, I concentrate on getting students to use what they already know on topics related to work or other interests. In other words, instead of teaching yet more theory, I want students to make more effective use of what they already know.
I returned to the UK a year ago to teach on-line English after 12 years teaching mainly in-company in Valencia, Spain. I was previously a lawyer for 20+ years working in private practice and in the insurance and management consultancy industries, specialising in EU and UK employment law and discrimination. I wrote for specialist magazines and prepared and presented PowerPoint presentations regularly. I previously trained as a journalist.
My own special interests are sailing, photography and classic cars.
