Hello, a bit about me:
THE BASICS:
My name is Allyson Stewart and I studied education at The University of North Texas. Since finishing my degree, I have had the joy of working in my very own fifth grade math and science classroom and fostering a love of learning daily. I grew up with my family in Garland, Texas, but recently married my husband and moved to Richardson with our three cats. I love doing calligraphy in my free time, as well as drawing, painting, and reading. When I can, I also love to go on trips where I can hike and enjoy nature! My most recent trip was my honeymoon to see the northern lights in Norway, but my favorite hike yet was on the Bondi Beach Trail in Sydney Australia!
MY COLLEGE:
I attended Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas for one semester in Fall 2017 as an Interior Design major, but quickly discovered that education was where I was meant to be. I transferred to The University of North Texas in Spring 2018 and began my journey as an education major. I loved every second of student teaching, and upon graduating in May 2021, I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies EC-6 with an ESL Certification. In college, much of my free time was spent serving in my sorority, Sigma Phi Lambda. In my last year as a member, I was elected to be the Secretary and serve as an officer of the organization.
MY FAVORITES:
My favorite part of teaching is getting to work with students and watching their mindset change as they go from the mentality of "I don't know how to..." to this incredible "ah-ha" moment where a new concept just clicks in their head and they know what they are capable of doing and learning. Getting to impact young minds in this way is so rewarding, and ultimately helping these students grow and learn is the most important aspect of teaching. My favorite subjects in school were always math and fine arts (band, art). Math was a subject that just made sense to me and I truly enjoyed solving problems, and fine arts were always more of a relaxing escape, where I could just enjoy being creative.
MY (TOP 5) STRENGTHS:
Organization
Creativity
Responsibility
Dedication
Flexibility
MY WHY:
I decided to become a teacher after I spent a summer teaching swim lessons. As I taught these lessons, it was incredible to see the growth that my students went through. Some students went from being scared to dip their feet in the pool to confidently diving in and swimming laps. Getting to make an impact and help a child grow and see what they are capable of was simply incredible to me. While swim lessons are greatly different from teaching in a classroom setting, I knew that I wanted to continue to impact young minds, and I knew that becoming a classroom teacher was the way to do so.
