I believe that continuous learning is an aspect of a healthy mind. This means I am often curious about new topics or how to improve a knowledge-base or skill I already have. As an educator, I try to promote this yearning and love of learning into my students; however, I am cognizant of the various ways in which this can form and therefore take an approach as a facilitator rather than teacher. That is, I use close observation to discover what my students are in need of in that moment and guide them to confidently discovering the answer with as much autonomy as possible. This is part of the relationship-building process that I deem critical for an effective teacher-student dynamic.
Other values and strengths I have in the realm of education include:
- reliable, fair, and kind presence
- support a growth mindset by acknowledging effort over intelligence
- ensure a concept is fully understood before moving on to another
- provide individual feedback (to student and parent/other teachers)
- organized, detail-oriented, timely
- curriculum and lesson planning
- flexible with student and family needs
- active, fun, creative, and caring
- science, health, math, reading, writing
