Let me introduce myself, I am Kate Taylor. I have taught in districts throughout Indianapolis for 23 years. About 2 years ago I left teaching due to the stressful culture created by administration and COVID. However, I yearn for the feeling I get when I connect with my students and see their curiosity and abilities grow. I enjoy the creative process of making hands-on, thought provoking lessons that inspire kids to ask questions and seek out their own answers.
I taught in schools that were a part of the International Baccalaureate Program. This gave me the opportunity to really explore curriculum development, interdisciplinary lessons using all subject areas, and authentic learning experiences that mean something to children.
I have taught and grades third through sixth, with diverse populations and abilities. I have experience modifying lessons or redesigning to fit the needs of individuals in my class. I want students to be eager to walk into a classroom, excited to see what happens next. I believe in alternative ways of learning and assessing, mostly project based.
I am looking for a full time position in a home school environment. I think the optimal student teacher ration is 8:1. Currently I am working with two kids from the same family.
I have designed year-long curriculum in both grades third and fourth. I have also worked multiple years in fifth grade, using inquiry methods. I was allowed to use multiple resources, and I invested my own money to bring authentic materials and learning experiences to my classroom. I have a garage full of books, math materials, non-fiction materials, and science equipment that I can bring to incorporate into our learning in the home environment. I am also versed in multiple online educational computer programs that can extend learning and allow the children to match their peers in skills.
My best qualities are that I am flexible, creative and make strong connections to my students and parents. Creating a nurturing safe educational environment where students can be free to be who they are and learn in a multitude of styles.
