Hello Families and Students-
Bio:
My name is Mr. Jeffrey and I love to learn as much as I love to teach. You'll often find me with a book in hand, historical fiction is my favorite genre although the Lord of the Rings series is some of the best literature of all time. Sports of all kinds are another passion of mine, and I grew up devouring as much sports-related news and stories as I could get my hands on. They can really be a motivator for students who aren't so keen on reading and writing.
Teaching Philosophy:
Growing up, I was a restless student who craved high-levels of engagement in lessons. This is why I am dedicated to creating engaging lessons with games, thought provoking questions, and other motivating content. I'd like to think that my students are never bored, laugh and smile often, are empathetic and considerate of other's opinions, value asking good questions, and frequently reflect my same joy for learning.
I also believe in movement themed education, and love to incorporate that into my lesson whether it be through exercise, yoga and stretching, or other fun physical physical challenges. Music and art are also great motivators, and I play guitar and ensure that art and other visuals are a key component of my teaching.
Experience:
My experience includes eight years in the classroom teaching 4th-8th graders in: Math, Reading, Writing/Language Arts, Social Studies, History, Science and Health. The past four years I've spent out of the classroom leading at-home learning pods and working one on one with families and students.
I can create an in-home learning environment for students that optimizes learning, focuses on routines and values, and offers creative and engaging curriculum aligned with state standards (if necessary).
Values:
I believe that building relationships is the key to learning and growth and will take the time to nurture those with my students. Nothing builds confidence like ability, and being able to overcome challenges that once seemed insurmountable. I hope to get the chance to help your child build their skills in any discipline I can as they develop into compassionate critical thinkers.
Thanks for taking the time to read!
