Hello, my name is Mrs. Slack, and I am a dedicated educator with a passion for supporting students who learn in nontraditional ways. I bring six years of experience in public education, having taught at both Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School and Paschal High School. My primary focus has been in the sciences, particularly Biology—a STAAR-tested subject—as well as Environmental Systems and IPC (Integrated Physics and Chemistry).

During my career, I created a freshman-level Environmental Systems course and designed a hybrid IPC/Biology course tailored to help students who had previously struggled to pass the STAAR exam. My classroom has become a place where students who have historically found academic success out of reach are empowered to learn in new and engaging ways.

My ability to connect with struggling students stems from my own educational challenges, which have shaped my creative and flexible teaching style. Prior to entering the classroom, I worked as a zookeeper at the Fort Worth Zoo in the Ectotherms Department, and an educator at Texas State Aquarium. I also have experience teaching outdoor skills such as windsurfing and skiing, and have led various youth camps during my college years.

I am deeply passionate about the outdoors and about helping students discover not only what they are learning, but why it matters. My goal is always to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose in every student I teach. I look forward to meeting you and supporting your students on their journey to success!
