Dr. Abby Ampuja has been a teacher since 2001. She has both special education and elementary education certification and has worked in a variety of public and private school settings in North Carolina. Abby received her Ph.D. in Special Education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) and homeschool practices for students with unique learning needs. Abby is a certified Community Resiliency Model (CRM) teacher and is passionate about sharing resiliency-informed practice both with individuals and groups in her community. She is the owner/founder of an SEL (Social Emotional Learning) center: The Empowered Learner. She has published two children’s books: The Monkey in My Mind and Feelings Are a Trip. Dr. Ampuja's research interests include resiliency, trauma-informed practice, SEL, homeschool for students with unique learning needs, and family-school partnerships.
