My name is Christina and I live in Denver! I have a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education for Diverse Young Learners (PK-3rd grade) from George Mason University and am licensed by the Colorado Department of Education.
I spent roughly 4 years teaching kindergarten in the Virginia public school system and have vast teaching experience including student teaching in Head Start preschool and 2nd grade, teaching at a local nature school for children 1.5 to 5 years old and their caregivers, volunteering as an adult English language teacher, substituting teaching for elementary, middle and high school, and teaching a college-success course for first-year college students as a graduate student.
As much as I love teaching, I have found that the public education system is not the best fit for me. As an early childhood educator, I emphasize play-based and creative learning, hands-on learning such as science experiments and nature exploration, and fine and gross motor development through various physical activities that are fun and age appropriate. At the same time, I am classically trained and am able to provide high-quality math and literacy instruction. The school district that I worked for is so exceptional, that a student in my district was named TIME Magazine's 2024 Kid of the Year for developing a soap that may treat and prevent skin cancer. I pride myself on being a high-quality educator and look forward to bringing my knowledge and passion to the homeschool community.
I believe that education should teach students how to think flexibly, creatively and empathetically. Life isn't a bubble sheet and nor should our learning be confined to right and wrong answers.
