With the English language having become the international medium for communication within tourism, IT, medical and financial sectors, I am pleased to offer an extensive background in ESL/EFL/business English to adults or mature high schoolers.
From 2008 to present, I have held Assistant Professor and Visiting Professor posts of the teaching of English within Kyungwoon University, Kyungpook National University and Jeju National University, South Korea, assisting students in English proficiency within the Departments of English Education (undergraduate degree) and Department of Translation & Interpretation (Master's level). Practical focus within the undergraduate degree saw emphasis in essay writing, various levels of conversation, debate and public speaking. Additional graduate-level classes under my instruction have been in analysis/understanding of "The English and American Novel."
From July 2004 to May of 2007, I served as a dedicated instructor to LG Corp. executives and senior officers; among my professional "students" were the CEO and President of both LG-Philips Displays and LG-TV (Digital Displays Division), Gumi, Republic of Korea. Within both companies, I offered instruction of English at levels ranging from from advanced conversational strategy and negotiation techniques, to Business English, basic sentence structure, grammar and listening comprehension. Classes have included personnel within the divisions of Accounting, R&D, Human Resources and Quality Control.
My teaching style is relaxed-yet-challenging. Companies expect their employees to elevate their given English language abilities, and my job is to help each student and company employee succeed in doing just that. Techniques include: discussion of current business events (articles taken from the day's English-language bilingual newspapers); practical and sophisticated role-playing; proper usage of idioms and useful ("real world") Western phrases; advanced vocabulary options via emphasis on Merriam-Webster's enhanced thesaurus and intensive grammar focus.
Prior to arrival in South Korea, I taught university English in the United States for six (6) years--from freshman composition, to technical writing, to advanced poetry and creative writing. I have also written for American magazines and hold a Master's degree in Professional Writing from the prestigious University of Southern California (USC); my doctoral coursework is completed from University of Louisiana-Lafayette in the field of American literature.
I have spent the past 18 years as a professional English instructor and Professor. Should your facility desire a passionate and qualified classroom leader, I would look forward to discussing your needs on a yearly or long-term basis.
Additional letters of recommendation available upon request.
Sincerely,
Todd Fahey
