Educating students has always been a passion. During my twelve years in public education, I have taught in a comprehensive high school, an early college, a post-secondary state university, a public charter school, and a public separate school for students with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities. Each of these unique placements has given me insight into the workings of the educational system and the needs of students within it.
As I progressed into teacher leader positions, I sought a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I wanted to know more about how learning was structured and the process of aligning learning to state and national standards. I integrated my learning into my practice and began writing and presenting regionally and nationally on my work. This ignited my love of academic writing and editing.
At the completion of my masters degree, I wanted to learn more about the way we learn and spend time immersed in research. This path led me to obtain a graduate degree in STEM education at the University of Texas. Texas pushed me to think more abstractly about education and the process of learning. I began working at Macmillian learning as an editorial contractor. In that role, I applied my knowledge of science content standards to create, edit, and publish supplemental course materials for higher education settings. I managed, wrote, and edited assessment items for student facing courses. I have training and experience in accessibility and user design, from both my work with Macmillan and in classrooms with diverse learners.
In my current classroom placement, I utilize a range of data to analyze and adjust instruction so that all students have access to high quality learning. The fluidity of my placement requires flexibility, adaptability, and creative problem solving.
